Saturday, June 17, 2017, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by potluck lunch at conclusion of program.

Central Virginia IONS Community Group Program Title:

“Sacred Geometry, Art and the Effects of Shapes on Consciousness.”

Our June 17, 2017, Central Virginia IONS Community Group program will feature a talk by artist Vandorn Hinnant, Durham, N.C. painter, sculptor, poet and educational consultant, moderated by his wife, AnaMaria Walle.

From an early age, Vandorn Hinnant consistently endeavored to translate his inner visions and other-dimensional experiences into something shareable with the world.

In 1989 he began his formal studies of Sacred Geometry under the tutelage of physicist and inventor Robert L. Powell, Sr., who became his mentor.

Since that fate-filled day, Vandorn Hinnant has developed a body of two and three-dimensional works of art, painting and sculpture, that some recognize as more than art. Many have encountered them and experienced transformative and expanded states of awareness.

Drawing inspiration from naturally occurring geometries and utilizing the Golden Ratio (also known as The Golden Proportion or Section), Vandorn Hinnant creates elegant compositions that embody fractal phenomenon. In doing so, he joins a long line of artists from Leonardo da Vinci to Salvador Dali who have used empirical methods to achieve aesthetic ends.

Vandorn Hinnant: Before We Knew

“Before We Knew: From The Mother of Everything” – Artwork by Vandorn Hinnant

AnaMaria Walle began her studies of metaphysics in 1973 and never stopped. She tracked down Vandorn when she saw an image of one of his works, entitled “Voice,” on a postcard while on the West Coast.

Her immediate response was, “I must meet whoever created this work of art.” Now together 15 years (married for 3), they continue to collaborate exploring inspirations they encounter in the realm of the metaphysical.

Join Vandorn and AnaMaria in conversation and entertaining questions posed by the audience as they share images of his work, creative explorations they have pursued such as pyramid power, meditation chambers and more!

Richmond IONS P.M.H. AtwaterFeaturing P.M.H. Atwater

Where: River Road Church – Baptist, 8000 River Road (NW corner of River and Ridge Roads)

Saturday, May 20, 2017, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by potluck lunch at conclusion of program.

Central Virginia IONS Community Group Program Title:

“A Guide to Living for This Life and Beyond.”

Our May 20, 2017, Central Virginia IONS Community Program will feature a talk by P.M.H. Atwater, world-renowned Charlottesville author and NDE researcher on her just published and latest book, A Manual for Developing Humans (April, 2017).

Celebrating the worldwide release of her latest book, P.M.H. Atwater will share reflections on her life as a prayer chaplain, visionary, counselor, wife, mother, grandmother, and her 43 years of work both with near-death experiencers and those who have had an intense spiritual transformation.

Although it’s the fifteenth book she has authored, A Manual for Developing Humans is the third book P.M.H. Atwater was instructed to write during her third near-death experience in the 1970s. Based entirely on threes, there are no chapters . . . only the development of conscious, subconscious and superconscious aspects to each topic―every topic―for the Manual contains the basics on every level of life―from how to use your mind, develop and use intuition, understand color, sex, relationships, children, how to take out-of-body trips, interact with spirit beings, meditate, bend time, and rethink money.

Aliveness jumps from every page―of soil, rocks, mountains, vegetation, the air we breathe, our planet, our solar system, our universe―even electricity and energy itself, along with The Void (the ultimate “cradle of creation”). The six main parts are separated by thought-form drawings.

What Ms. Atwater has learned from 80 years of living and challenging every aspect of living is interwoven into what “The Voice Like None Other” showed her how to do. A Manual for Developing Humans is filled with surprises, as will be Ms. Atwater’s talk about it. We are blessed to have her back on our stage once again, and grateful for it.

About Our Central VA IONS Community Group May Presenter:

This month’s Richmond IONS presenter will be P.M.H. Atwater, the world’s most prolific NDE author, as well as one of its original, most indefatigable and highly respected researchers.

Inspired by three NDEs of her own, Ms. Atwater began her research in the mid-1970s, some 43 years ago, just after moving from Idaho to Virginia. Since then she has investigated nearly 7,000 NDE cases and others involving intense spiritual transformation around the world and authored fifteen books on this fascinating subject.

Ms. Atwater has won many awards, appeared on numerous TV shows and spoken at the United Nations and around the world – always inviting people to look beyond the surface appearance for the deeper truths underlying what we think we know. You may visit her website at pmhatwater.hypermart.net.

Central VA IONS Community Group Program Title:

“From Meditation to Co-Creation.”

Our April 15, 2017 Central VA IONS Community Group program will feature a talk by Carole
Louie, Medium, Past Life Regression Therapist, Interior Designer, Feng Shui Consultant, and Author.

Carole will share the creative process that led to her just-published book, Conversations with a
Hungry Ghost −Memoir of a Reluctant Medium (March 2017). It is an exploration of the afterlife beginning with a journey into the Tenth Hell of the Buddha, a place where people go when they commit certain “sins,” according to Buddhist teachings.

Carole’s quest is to discover her ancestral roots in China and of healing the past. It is also a story about the detours along the way that led her to research the teachings of reincarnation.

Carole Louie is on a spiritual journey. Born on Columbus Day to a Caucasian Southern Baptist
mother and a Chinese Buddhist father, during the era of miscegenation shortly after WWII, she
began her journey across the seas of discrimination into new territory.

When Carole overcame her lifelong fear of ghosts to communicate with her father’s spirit, her world turned inside out. She juggled the experiences of her spiritual journey with the mundane world and learned how to integrate the two.

Conversations with her father’s ghost helped her accept her gift as a medium and unraveled a Gordian knot, propelling Carole on a spiritual exploration of all religious/philosophical beliefs and cosmologies.

Her explorations into her father’s Buddhist beliefs
about ghosts and reincarnation inspired her to delve into reincarnation research and her own past lives.
Carole will share a guided meditation to explore consciousness and the group’s energy to heal, transform and grow spiritually.

Central VA IONS Community Group March Meeting: Sandy Ward
Sandy Ward: The Gift of Mediumship

Featuring Sandy Ward

Where: River Road Church – Baptist, 8000 River Road (NW corner of River and Ridge Roads)

When: Saturday, March 18, 2017, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by potluck lunch at conclusion of the program.

Central VA IONS Community Group Program Title:

“The Gift of Mediumship”

Our March 18, 2017 Central VA IONS Community Group program will feature a talk by Sandy Ward, a spirit medium who recently relocated from Virginia Beach to Richmond. Our previously scheduled speaker, Lucia Williams, had a last-minute scheduling conflict, so we are very blessed and grateful that Sandy, with whom we already were in contact about being a guest speaker at a later date, was able to make herself available for us now.

Sandy will share with our group the poignant and fascinating details of her personal story, and her long and sometimes arduous journey to mediumship. Though imbued with spirit connections from early childhood which enabled her to effortlessly feel, see, hear and touch spirit presences around her constantly, she learned early on to keep these connections to herself.

She learned that most others did not have these kinds of spirit connections and often reacted to them with fear, suspicion, hostility and ridicule, leading Sandy to hide her gift for many years.

This personal strategy proved over time to be unsustainable, as her spirit connections would not be denied. Eventually, with the love and support of her husband and family, Sandy awakened to the realization that her unusual ability to interface with the spirit realm is her gift to the world, and she finally learned to acknowledge it, embrace it and use it to help others in need.

Since then she has trained with a number of mediums to improve and strengthen her skills, including world-renowned psychic and medium James Van Praagh.

She now dedicates herself to using her gift to help people in a variety of ways, including personal readings and forecasts, helping the bereaved connect with departed loved ones, assisting police and victims with unsolved criminal investigations, etc.

If time and conditions permit, she may give a brief mediumship demonstration during her talk at Richmond IONS/Central VA IONS Community Group.

About Our Central VA IONS Community Group March Presenter:

Our Richmond IONS March Presenter will be Sandy Ward. She was born in California, the youngest of ten children and a Navy brat. Her dad’s Navy career enabled her family to live in some great locations, including California and then Hawaii, where she fell in love with the culture and the people. She eventually ended up at Virginia Beach, where her dad retired and she met her future husband.

Throughout her youth and young adulthood, she found herself studying spirituality as a means of trying to understand her gift of mediumship. Her childhood also had her spending many hours in church, as this was where she felt closest to spirits and found her passion for serving people.

She has trained with world-renowned psychic and medium James Van Praagh, and now is sharing her gift full-time with the world in a variety of ways. She can be reached on her website at www.newenergymedium.com or on Facebook at Sandy Ward New Energy Medium.

Robert Bushman, Ph.D.

Featuring Robert Bushman, Ph.D.

Where: River Road Church – Baptist, 8000 River Road (NW corner of River and Ridge Roads)

When: Saturday, January 21, 2017, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by potluck lunch at conclusion of program.

Central VA IONs Community Group Program Title:

“Exopolitics in the 21st Century and Beyond.”

Exopolitics is a relatively new term referring to our relationship to those outside our planet, that is, to extraterrestrials (“ETs”). It is formally defined by the Exopolitics Institute as “…an interdisciplinary scientific field, with its roots in the political sciences, that focuses on research, education and public policy with regard to the actors, institutions and processes associated with extraterrestrial life, as well as the wide range of implications this entails through public advocacy and newly emerging paradigms.”

Robert has studied exopolitics extensively for more than a decade, attended conferences and participated in study groups on the topic. He also has interviewed experiencers and contactees, and discovered a treasure trove of little known information he will share at this meeting.

His in-depth study of this subject has opened a window of insights into a broad spectrum of human concerns and aspirations, including noetics.

Robert will explore questions such as: Are we alone? What is the evidence we are not? Who is visiting us and how long have they been visiting? What are or have they been doing? What do they want? What are they like? What can exopolitics teach us about human history, identity and potential?

Does our government have dealings and/or agreements with ETs? Why does our government not tell us about it? What is the U.S. doing in space that they are not telling us about? Are ETs involved in our current global power structure? How reliable is information on exopolitics? What are we learning from ETs and how can we make personal contact with them? What is the outlook for the future? How can I learn more about this?

These questions and more will be addressed, and this is one program you won’t want to miss if you ever spent a moment wondering about these subjects.

About Our Central VA Ions Community Group February Presenter:

Robert Bushman is a long-standing member of IONS, and has served as the IONS community group coordinator in both Alexandria, Virginia and Eugene, Oregon. As a scientific linguist, he was a visiting professor of linguistics, a supervising linguist in a corporate translation office.

He was also a supervisor of a university language instructional program and a developer of commercial language training materials. In addition, he developed the first course in Estonian for the language school of the US State Department.  He has been retired since 2003.

Richmond Ions January MeetingFeaturing Edward F. Kelly, Ph.D.

Where: River Road Church – Baptist, 8000 River Road (NW corner of River and Ridge Roads)

When: Saturday, January 21, 2017, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by potluck lunch at conclusion of program.

Richmond IONS Program Title:

“Parapsychology in Context – Towards a Personal Reconciliation of Science and Spirit.”

Our 21st Anniversary Program, on January 21, 2017, will feature a talk by Edward F. Kelly, Ph.D., author of numerous scholarly works and Senior Professor of Research at the UVA Medical School’s Division of Perceptual Studies (DOPS) in Charlottesville.

The so-called “mind-body” problem (whether mind begets body or body begets mind) has been the core dilemma of Western philosophical discourse for nearly 2,500 years, since the era of Plato and Aristotle.

Through the centuries the pendulum has swung in both directions, and the current drift of establishment science tilts the scales heavily towards a materialistic perspective, leaving little room for spirituality. The mission of IONS Founder, Dr. Edgar Mitchell, was to reconcile these seemingly divergent streams, and Dr. Edward Kelly’s career spanning nearly five decades has been similarly focused.

Ed will speak about his experiences and what he has learned during his 45 years of professional research in the parapsychology field, which started in experimental parapsychology with J.B. Rhine in Durham at Duke University in 1972, through his current role at UVA with a research group focused mainly on evidence for postmortem survival.

He will describe in personal terms what has emerged for him as the meaning of it all based on his experiences, and how his experiences have transformed him from something pretty close to conventional physicalism/scientific materialism in his early years towards a vision which puts consciousness at the heart of all, essentially inverting the mainstream conception of mind as secondary to matter. We are very pleased to welcome Ed as our 21st Anniversary guest speaker.

About Our Richmond Ions January Presenter:

Edward F. Kelly, Ph.D. is currently Professor of Research in the Division of Perceptual Studies at the University of Virginia Medical School. He received his Ph.D. in psycholinguistics and cognitive science from Harvard in 1971, and spent the next 15-plus years working mainly in parapsychology, initially at J.B. Rhine’s Institute for Parapsychology, then for ten years through the Department of Electrical Engineering at Duke, and finally through a private research institute in Chapel Hill.

Between 1988 and 2002 he worked with a large neuroscience group at UNC-Chapel Hill, mainly carrying at EEG and fMRI studies of human somatosensory cortical adaptation to natural tactile stimuli. He returned full-time to psychical research in 2002, serving as lead author (with his wife, Emily Williams Kelly, Ph.D., as a co-author) of Irreducible Mind (Rowman & Littlefield, 2007) and Beyond Physicalism (Rowman & Littlefield, 2015).

He is now returning to his central long-term research interest – application of modern functional neuroimaging methods to intensive
psychophysiological studies of psi and ASCs in exceptional subjects (http:cedaracreekinst.org).

Richmond IONS Meeting, September 15, 2016

Featuring a talk by Vickie Griffith

“Still Stuck? Releasing Limiting Beliefs and Other Acts of Self-Sabotage.”

Vickie GriffithOur September 17, 2016 program will feature a talk by Vickie Griffith, a Florida-based hypnotherapist, emotional freedom technique (“EFT”) practitioner, author (Stucked Up! A BreakThrough Path to Unstuck), self-help and improvement coach and teacher, who formerly lived in Richmond.

Vickie describes her childhood as one in which she felt cut off from normal social interactions with others due to being overweight, a chronic problem she began trying, by the age of 10, to correct by dieting, but without success.

Change finally came for her when, as a teenager, she became fascinated with the possibility of personal transformation through the power of the mind. In college she pursued psychology courses and eventually discovered hypnosis, EFT, and, through the use of these tools, the power to transform herself.  This gave her a calling to help others do the same and she has been pursuing that calling ever since.

Here’s how Vickie describes the program in her own words: “There is no doubt we are being called to experience our present lifetimes on a higher level. Many experts agree we are moving towards a higher consciousness, beyond prescribed limitations of old cultural norms and paradigms.

Yet once we are exposed to the new era for humanity our ‘buts…’ get big. Fears and self-limiting beliefs saying ‘I can’t do that’ overshadow our movement towards freedom and peace, and we get stuck. It then seems no matter what we do we still remain stuck in old negative thoughts, destructive habits and debilitating feelings.”

Vickie will share practical energetic tools for everyday life that will help shrink and dissolve your self-negating and self-limiting beliefs (your “buts…”). You will learn which of the four self-limiting beliefs keeps you stuck, what four resistances you are using right now to excuse yourself, and easy-to-use, real-time energetic tools to release what is keeping you stuck.

If you are ready to get unstuck, find freedom and happiness and really begin to experience the higher consciousness you desire, this program is for you.

About Our Presenter:

Vickie Griffith is a certified hypnotherapist, EFT practitioner, life coach, self-help teacher and author. She has given workshops around the country, appeared numerous times as a featured guest on radio and TV talk shows and is known for her infectious enthusiasm and deceptively low-key, casual approach.

Vickie is also an adjunct professor at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and is a licensed minister. You may visit her website at www.break-through.org.

A talk and concert by Norma Gentile, Sound Shaman

“Sound Shamanism − an explanation and live demonstration.”

Norma Gentile, Sound ShamanOur August 20, 2016 program will feature a talk, live demonstration and concert by Norma Gentile, an internationally acclaimed singer, sound shaman, intuitive healer and channel for Archangel Michael, Mary and the Hathors. This is a rare treat for our CV IONS Community Group and we are delighted Norma could fit us into her schedule.

Norma has her feet in both the professional world (holding a master’s degree in Voice Performance from the University of Michigan) and in the shamanic healing traditions. Having seen auras and angels as a child, she learned to utilize her spiritual connections as an adult by training with shamans and psychics while developing her own means of using music for spiritual healing.

Drawn to music that facilitates deep states of inner awareness, Norma combines Tibetan singing bowls with the western medieval chants of St. Hildegard von Bingen.

Norma is known the world over as a “sound shaman” not only because of the quality of her voice, but also the remarkable healing power her singing can induce, aided and guided by the channeled influence of those guides and angels who work with her. They usually include Atamira (a Hathor), and the intelligences associated with Nature and Earth.

For those who would like a preview of what’s in store, we invite you to check Norma’s website at www.healingchants.com or Google “Norma Gentile sound shaman.” To enhance the acoustical qualities of this program, we will hold our August 20 meeting in the small Chapel on the wing of the Church closest to River Road.

Our potluck lunch following the program will be in Chapel Hall (where we met in July, as well as January for our 20th Anniversary program, and last December). The Chapel may be accessed either from the front door at ground level on the River Road side of the Church or from below via a stairway adjacent to Chapel Hall.

In addition to our August 20 program, Norma also will conduct an all-day workshop in Charlottesville on Sunday, August 21, and private healing sessions in Richmond on Monday, August 22 and on Tuesday, August 23.

Please see Norma’s website, www.healingchants.com, to schedule a private session in Richmond or attend her workshop in Charlottesville.

About Our Presenter:

Norma Gentile is a recording artist with four solo musical CDs to her credit, plus 50 meditation and teaching CDs and many online courses. She also is an energy healer and channel, and receives channeled information for individuals during healing sessions, as well as written transmissions from Archangel Michael, Mary and Thoth which she shares in newsletters, blogs and articles. She also channels the Hathors and healing energies from Nature in her music.

Richmond IONS Meeting, July 16, 2016

Featuring a talk by Dennis Lutz

“Energy Pathways to Health and Healing.”

Dennis LutzOur July 16, 2016 program will feature a talk by holistic energy healer and light worker, Dennis Lutz, who only recently (in May and June of this year) relocated from the Tampa, Florida area to Richmond.

After spending 35 years in real estate and construction in sunny Florida, Dennis Lutz realized that something in his life was lacking. He finally gave in and followed his intuition, which he says he had abandoned back in his teenage years, and was guided to the holistic healthcare field.

Having no formal education past high school, Dennis headed back to school and attended Manatee Technical College. He soon followed by enrolling at the Institute of Structural Energetic Therapy (“SET”) to become a therapeutic bodyworker.

Within about three months after beginning his practice, Dennis was amazed to discover the extent of the beneficial effects his work was having – many clients who had suffered chronic pain for years, some for as long as they could remember, suddenly reported being pain free. Most, until they met him, were not aware such alternative therapies existed.

His initial success helping these clients motivated Dennis to explore deeper healing modalities in the form of energy techniques. Dennis now practices a broad spectrum holistic approach which includes therapeutic bodywork, energy work, breathwork, spirituality, chakra balancing, diet, nutrition, exercise, yoga, meditation, hypnotherapy and essential oils for well-being.

Dennis not only continues to practice a variety of hands-on physical protocols, but also practices remote energy healing, and often has found this to be just as effective as in-person protocols. Dennis will share his experiences in support of non-invasive pain relief, health and healing techniques that can be easily combined with standard medical practices, when and as needed.

The breadth and depth of health care applications Dennis has found for his work, which have, on occasion, even included dramatic therapeutic benefits in unexpected categories of maladies like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, is quite remarkable.

About Our Presenter:

Dennis Lutz, SET, is a graduate of The Institute of Structural Energetic Therapy in Florida. Dennis has studied and practiced Advanced Pranic Healing, Yuen Energetics, and Structural Energetic Therapy-Cranial/Structural Core Distortion Releases.

He also practices Advanced Cranial Structural Balancing, Pelvic Balancing, Head Neck and Shoulder, EVM, Full Body Torsion, Upper Body Torsion, Flexion, Shear, Carpal Tunnel, Lower Leg and Feet protocols, Cranial Structural Energetics and Emotional Energetic Release Therapy. He also trained at the NMT Center in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Richmond IONS Meeting, June 18, 2016

A presentation by Drs. Tom & Jane Hansen

“Finding and Expressing One’s Self.”

Our June 18, 2016 program will feature a presentation by Drs. Tom and Jane Hansen, Charlottesville educators, authors, songwriters, composers and musicians. Tom has written about the metaphysical Self (Trying to Remember (1995) and Remembering our Oneness (2013)), and Jane about the importance of Self to writers.

Drs. Tom and Jane Hansen will offer their ideas of “Self” via discussion and music. Within this format attendees will travel from the mathematical and metaphysical space of “Flatland,” to Johnny Cash’s thoughts about love, to the possibility that “God” is the “context in which forever takes place,” and elsewhere.

Prompted by songs performed by Tom and Jane, the audience will have opportunities to think about and discuss:

• The idea that “Believing Is Seeing.”
• The power we all have to “Imagine” ourselves and the world to be.
• The claim that we are all spiritual beings who are still in Oneness.
• The hope that “Forgiveness” of each other and the world can be simply a
matter of “Remembering” one’s Self.
• The seemingly outlandish claim that our 3D physical world is an illusion, and perhaps even a “Simulation” that we make ourselves.
• The choice to simply “Let the Mystery Be” and just live our lives.

About Our Presenters:

Tom Hansen, Ph.D., is a retired mathematics education researcher, author of math books and teacher. He began his career in the Peace Corps in Liberia in 1964. Tom was the founder of a non-profit that coordinated citizen exchanges between the U.S.S.R. and the U.S. in the 1980s. He was a Non-Governmental participant at the Earth Summit in 1992.

Tom has sung and played guitar for decades, has several CDs of his songs and has performed at numerous festivals, workshops and conferences. He is a member of the Positive Music Association. His 2014 CD, “Book Concert,” consists of songs whose lyrics are all quotes from his Remembering Our Oneness book.

Jane Hansen, Ph.D., is professor emerita at UVA’s Curry School of Education, and began her career, with Tom, in the Peace Corps in Liberia. As a professor her specialty was to teach teachers how to teach K-12 students to write across the curriculum.

She has led workshops for teachers in many states and several foreign countries, including Brazil, Canada, Australia, the Bahamas and Belize. In working with writing her goal is to help others and herself, see writing as a means of expression of Self, as is music. Jane began playing the piano keyboard in fourth grade and now sees both that keyboard and her computer keyboard as equally important means of Self-presentation and Self-expression.
